Iggy does the media rounds

Iggy does the media rounds

Update: Click here to view the At Issue Panel last night that I was referring to

Yesterday, Ignatieff was working the media circuit. Here is some footage from his appearances on Don Newman, the National and Newsworld. Commentators on the "At Issue" Panel yesterday did not think the Liberal leader had a good day.

That sound that Iggy hears is the bus that ran over the hapless Dion.

I still can't discern what Ignatieff is planning to do. The press conference and subsequent media interviews yesterday did not clarify the matter. If he continues on this meander through national politics, he will have the happy result of being worse for the economy than the recession. The markets do not like uncertainty.

Imagine an election campaign with 'the man who wants to be King', winging it like this...Conservative majority!

I can't figure out what Ignatieff is trying to do. Ignatieff wants some standardized EI program across Canada, but only when the economy is bad. When it becomes better, we'll have the discriminatory insurance program again. Buying the vote is bad; renting it is worse.

I don't think this week's event will be a huge setback for Ignatieff. While Ignatieff doesn't need a firm set of policies to propose to the Canadian public, he will need to give Canadians a sense of direction. So far both Ignatieff and Harper can't find their GPSes.

If I were Harper, I would pull the plug on his government in the fall and ask the GG to let Ignatieff lead a Liberal-NDP(-Bloc) coalition. Note that I am no fan of Harper.
